Our Preps Are Learning To Read!
Our Prep students have already learnt the sounds and letter formations for the following letters:
s , a, t and i, and now know six sight words: a I is at as it!
Next week they will be meeting the letter m and learning to read and write more words with this new letter!
Please remember to read daily with your child and encourage them to engage with the Reading Eggs online resource.
Leichhardt Students Making a Difference in the Community!
On Wednesday and Friday of Week 3, the students in the Reading with the Kindy Kids Elective began their first week of afternoon visits to the Ipswich Early Education Centre and Preschool.
Leichhardt students and Kindy students thoroughly enjoyed reading, drawing and singing together.
Leichhardt students also led the Kindy students in activities around the letter ‘s’. It was lovely to see the Leichhardt students sharing their reading and writing skills with the Kindy students.
It was also great to see siblings reading together. Well done, Leichhardt!
Reading and Maths @ Leichhardt
At Monday’s Week 3 Assembly the January Reading Eggs Awards were celebrated.
It was lovely to see the following students receive Reading Eggs Awards: River and Skylar from Prep, Isabella and Zoe from Year 1, Chelsea from Year 2, Matilda and Isabella from Year 3, Mia from Year 4 and Breeanna from Year 5. Well done, students!
It was also wonderful to see Ms G (Prep A) and Mr Saran (4B) take out the Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress Engagement Awards in recognition of the number of their students who engaged with the Reading Eggs platform during the month of January.
Looking forward to the February Awards Assembly when we will be celebrating Reading Eggs, Mathseeds and Mathletics Gold Award achievements!
All Leichhardt students have access to Reading Eggs (P-6), Mathseeds (P-2) and Mathletics (3-6) at home. If you do not have your child’s login details for these programs, please contact your child’s teacher.
From Our Head of Department - Teaching and Learning
As part of our AVID focus our students have been busy learning how to be organised! Classes are focusing on organising bookwork as well as belongings. We have been busy teaching and learning how to 'Set up their notes' (S in STAR). Prep and Year 1 have been using 2 column notes to organise their notes as seen in the photos we have shared this fortnight. Well done everyone! It has been so wonderful to hear you having such great conversations and show such great pride in your learning and bookwork. We have loved celebrating the amazing learning on Parade each week and look forward to continuing to celebrate with our Leichhardt school community.

From Our Teachers
Year 1A
1A have spent the last week learning how to make new friendships and make positive choices in our classroom. We have also been writing recounts in English and been focusing on place value in Maths.
Year 1B
Over the past few weeks we have been busy brainstorming things that roll/stretch/bend. This week in Science we used playdough to practice roll/bend/stretch to make many different things! Year 1 were really interested to see how easy it was to manipulate their playdough and had some great discussions with their peers.
From Our Student Media Liaison
On Friday the 10th of February, School and Vice Captains, Cultural Captains, House Captains, Student Leaders, Student Media Liaison and Class Representatives received their leadership badges at a morning Assembly which was well attended by Parents and Carers. It was a very exciting Assembly and all leaders promised to consistently model the School's Values of Gratitude, Respect, Teamwork and Perseverance and the School's Expectations of being kind, being safe and being learners.
Well done, 2023 Leichhardt Leaders!
To a fantastic year Maci Carter.
