From The Principal
During the 2024 School Review process, three State School Reviewers had the opportunity to talk to our staff, students, parents and members of community about how we engage with them to support students’ learning and improvement in student outcomes.
We received many affirmations – statements about our ‘great work’, and some next steps to consider as we continue our improvement journey. We hope to engage with our community in ways that encourage deeper collaboration, one that is focused on coming up with shared goals and committing to actions that will lead us to achieving those goals.
We soon start to collaboratively develop a four-year strategic plan that we see our school reach new and bolder goals, and at the same time, be responsive to change that affects the community we serve. In a month’s time, we will receive the full review and publish the summary of the findings on our website. We will then start to collaboratively work on a plan to investigate, develop and implement the improvement strategies for the next four years.
We want to provide exceptional care to our students in an environment of high expectations for student learning achievement and learning engagement. From within, we need to focus on teaching and learning to drive improvement. I wonder, from your perspective as a parent or carer, where can Leichhardt improve? How can we work better together to support our students?
Our school has excellent support of the wider community, who are keen to assist our students to access a well-maintained and enjoyable environment. The people who are always so willing to help are members of the City Hope Church, who worked over the weekend to clean up some areas, refresh others and leave a beautiful school for our students and staff to return to on Monday 3 June. We could not be more grateful for their support, which did not end there! On the same day, they provided a free hot drink to support staff wellbeing. These gestures of support are all every school needs to feel the kindness of their community and feel respected for the work we do. Thank you, City Hope Church for your kindness and support!

It is now that time of term when students are completing their assessments. Please ensure your child has the opportunity to do their best and show their learning by being at school each day.
Empower your child's future by ensuring they attend school regularly - every day counts towards their success!
Reading in Prep @ Leichhardt
At the Week 8 Monday morning Assembly, Bentley (Prep A) demonstrated to the audience how when he reads, he sounds out the letters in a word and then he blends the sounds together as he runs his finger under the letters in a swish-like movement. This action at Leichhardt is called ‘the swish’ and it is used to help the beginning reader to remember that once they have sounded out the letters in the word, then they need to be blended together.
Well done, Bentley!
If you have any questions regarding how your child is progressing with their reading, please contact your child’s teacher.

We look forward to seeing the FLC students again when they return in Term 3! Thank you, FLC!

As we enter our last two week of Term 2, students are persevering in completing assessments for various learning areas. Students have been supported through one-on-one support by teacher or teacher aide, using devices to cater for all learning styles and hands-on learning including posters and drawings. Students across all year levels have been building their stamina in reading and writing. Well done!!

PBL news!
During Week 7 and Week 8, our students have been focussing on using teamwork to keep people, school property and personal belongings safe. It involves keeping sticks in the Forest and keeping our hands, feet and objects to ourselves. It includes storing and charging our devices and placing our school bags in a neat manner.
Students are encouraged to use the ‘High Five’ when needed. This is reviewed every assembly as well as in class and in the playground, in order to support our students in making good behaviour choices.
I would like to thank our families for partnering with us around Positive Behaviour for Learning. The Department of Education has outlined the benefits for students of family-school engagement including: improved academic outcomes, stronger relationships with adults and peers, better social skills; and improved mental health. When families and schools work together to reinforce positive behaviours, students benefit from clear expectations and consistent reinforcement both at home and in school. This collaboration helps to create a cohesive approach to behaviour management, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility for students' well-being and success.

Mission Australia Ipswich Speak it up Children's Council
On the 6 June 2024, Christianna and Timothy went to Redbank Plains Community Centre for the Children's Council run by Mission Australia with Miss Everingham. We learnt about children's rights. Upon entering we met a lot of ther grade 6's from other schools. We got to know other students. We then started to learn about childrens' rights. The host prepared activities for the students including writing about the issues that casues child rights and the adults can fix it. Then at 11:30 lunch break they ordered PIZZA for us and we had a play outside. All students came back inside and we played a game in groups of three. We all wrote why these issues are so important to stop. We played more games and then we unfortunately had to leave:(
From The Head Of Special Education
I just wish to inform families that I am now located in the Steam building area rather than the Student Office. If you require to speak or meet with me, you can find the Steam building across from the main school by continuing to follow the path past the hall and across past the Forest area.
If you wish to check if I am there before walking across, please see either Miss Emma in the Sanctuary or Miss Anna in the main office and they will be able to confirm if I am available at Steam. Look forward to meeting with you in my new office space.

Reconciliation Week
The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
Leichhardt Deadly Dancers went across the road to the daycare centre to talk about reconciliation and spend time with the jarjums.
The Deadly Dancers have been busy heading off to Kambu Children and Family Centre and spent time interacting at the Centre with Staff.
