Volume17 - 25 October
From The Principal
Welcome to our Newsletter for week 4. I can’t believe that we are almost in November. Last week I had the pleasure of going to watch some of our student’s play touch football against some other schools. It was very hot. All of the teams played very well with some very nice tries being scored. What I was most proud of while watching our players was the wonderful sportsmanship that was on display. While I was watching the senior boys, they had a number of tries scored against them, even though they were losing they were such great sports. They all continued to try their best and support and encourage each other, it was wonderful to see. Well, done to all of those students involved.
Strategic Direction
Our school is currently developing a strategic plan for the next 4 years. A big piece of the plan is to embed the framework below. This framework focuses on creating a sense of belonging for students, staff, parents, carers and the community. Everyone should feel they belong and are welcome. As we continue to develop this strategic plan, we will be asking for community input.
Zones of Regulation
Our school continues to implement the Zones of Regulation Program. Often little people have big emotions. Children come to school to learn and part of learning is emotional regulation. Talking about emotions and feelings help children to develop new skills to cope when they have big feelings. We talk about being in the red, we all go there sometimes (even big people). It perfectly normal to feel angry, frustrated, scared or even out of control, but it's how we act when we are there that we have to practice, that’s the learning.

Celebrating the Success of LSS Week 3 Parent-Teacher Interviews!
We are thrilled to share the success of our recent parent-teacher interviews! These meaningful conversations between parents and teachers play a vital role in strengthening the home-school connection and supporting our students' growth. The feedback from families has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the value of coming together to celebrate achievements and discuss the next steps in each child's learning journey.
Through open communication, parents were able to gain a deeper understanding of their child’s progress, while teachers were grateful for the insights parents shared from home. This partnership allows us to work collaboratively to tailor support strategies that benefit each student, both academically and emotionally.
A big thank you to all parents and carers for their active involvement, thoughtful questions, and shared commitment to student success. It is this teamwork that fosters an environment where every child can flourish. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and watching our students thrive! Together, we can achieve great things!
Below are just some photos of Leichhardt State School’s amazing staff setting up for the parent-teacher interview session.

Why School Attendance is Critical
Regular school attendance is key to student success. Being present every day helps students stay on track with learning, build strong relationships, and develop important life skills. Let’s work together to help every student achieve 90% attendance or higher across all year levels. Every day counts!
Celebrating Year 6 English Success!
This term, our Year 6 students have been diving into the world of narratives, inspired by The Wild Robot. They’ve been reading the text and crafting their own creative stories, showing impressive imagination and skill.
A special thank you to Sam and Amelia for presenting their learning journey and sharing what they’re working on to achieve an A. Their dedication and insights truly reflect the hard work happening in our Year 6 English classes. Well done to all students for your enthusiasm and progress this term! Keep up the fantastic work!

Celebrating the Joy of Reading @Leichhardt
This week, we were thrilled to see the return of the Reading with the Kindy Kid elective, bringing smiles and stories back to the day care centre across the road. It’s always a heart-warming sight to see our students connecting with the young children, sharing their love of reading and building a sense of community. The children were engaged and enthusiastic, creating a joyful atmosphere that truly embodies the spirit of learning together.
We also welcomed back the dedicated members of the Faith Lutheran College Service Team, along with staff, who visited Leichhardt to share reading time with Year 1 and Year 2 students. Their presence and support make a big difference, and it’s wonderful to see the positive connections being made through books.
A special thank you to Faith Lutheran College for your ongoing support and commitment to this program! Your efforts are greatly appreciated and continue to inspire a love of reading in our community.
A big ‘Thank you’ to Ms Carolin for her work in facilitating the session so that it runs smoothly each week!

Year 5 and 6 reminders
To assist our Year 5 and 6 students for high school, students have been taking more responsibility for their supplies, such as their pencil case and ruler, between classes. Please remind your student to ensure their ruler, pencil case, complete with lead pencils and an eraser, are in their bag each morning before they leave for school. Thank you, Miss Greenwood, for creating our posters to remind students to organise their belongings.

Teachers and students have continued to work together as a team, to keep school and personal property safe. This includes; staying on task, storing and charging our devices after use, and placing our school bags in a neat manner. As part of the PBL process, teachers and students have had conversations about how to use devices. As a school, we are in the process of creating positively stated expectations to embed throughout the school.
High Five
Students are encouraged to use the ‘High Five’ when needed. This is reviewed every assembly as well as in class and in the playground, in order to support our students in making good behaviour choices.
I would like to thank our families for partnering with us around Positive Behaviour for Learning. The Department of Education has outlined the benefits for students of family-school engagement including: improved academic outcomes, stronger relationships with adults and peers, better social skills; and improved mental health. When families and schools work together to reinforce positive behaviours, students benefit from clear expectations and consistent reinforcement both at home and in school. This collaboration helps to create a cohesive approach to behaviour management, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility for students' well-being and success.

From The Head of Special Education
Just a friendly reminder that if you have not enrolled your child into high school for Year 7, now is a good time to do this. Local high schools have started their transitions to Year 7 and offer additional transition days for students, who require extra support settling into their new schools. Ipswich State High School has begun their supported transition days.
Bremer will have their supported transition days coming up in November. This program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to tour the school, meet the Year 7 team, and work in smaller groups ahead of Bremer’s Orientation Day, scheduled for Friday, 29th November. This additional exposure will help ease any anxieties and set students up for a successful transition to high school. If you wish for your child to participate in these additional sessions at Bremer High School, please scan the QR Code or email Emily Convery to register.

Prep
Prep A have been learning about the features of houses in HASS. Using various construction materials, we enjoyed playing and building houses, apartments and even farms. Mrs Krings then brought out the animals and dinosaurs for us to see if our constructions gave them shelter, protection and privacy.
Whilst this activity allowed students to demonstrate their understanding of houses, students also practiced social skills such as sharing and turn taking as well as continuing the development of fine motor skills.
